Board of Management

Birrahlee is a non-profit community based preschool where an elected Board of current parents oversees the preschool management, in a voluntarily capacity. The Board comprises of a President and not more than ten Directors including a Secretary and Treasurer. Board members are elected every year at the Annual General Meeting and hold an office term of one year. The Board works very closely with the preschool’s Director, all staff members and the Birrahlee community.

The Board is accountable for the governance and financial management of the preschool, overseeing strategic direction and monitoring the preschool’s current performance. The Board currently has a Five Year Strategic Plan (2016-2021) which identifies areas of improvement and outlines the direction for the preschool in the coming years.

As a community-based preschool, we welcome and rely on parental involvement. There are many ways you can enrich our curriculum and the life of the preschool. Joining our Board is one such way.

Board members are required to attend meetings, which are usually held on the second Monday of the month at 8 pm. Duties are not onerous and meetings usually last 2 hours. Formal qualifications, while welcome, are not essential.

Parents are invited to join the Board of Directors. Responsibilities include staff matters, teaching standards, our program, finances and the standard of buildings, grounds and equipment.
